Stephen Franks Bid
For Parliament
Starts July 22

Former ACT MP, and with his wife Kathy a long time National Press Club member, Stephen Franks, will launch his Parliamentary bid, this time as a National Party candidate, for Wellington Central, at a lunch at Manon restaurant, at midday on Tuesday July 22.

This will be the second time that Franks has addressed the club. The first time was in his ACT role as the Parliamentary Party’s spokesman on a variety of portfolios.

At this talk, Franks will outline the reasons behind his re-conversion to mainstream party politics, and his policies for winning the Wellington seat which is currently held by Labour.

The cost of this full scale sit-down lunch inclusive of all drinks is $45 for members and $55 for non members.

GEOFF FULLER LAUNCHES PRACTICAL LAW HANDBOOK

A former secretary of the National Press Club, Geoff Fuller will launch his long-awaited legal handbook at Dymocks, Lambton Quay, in August. The handbook, competitively priced at $35, will give journalists an all- encompassing compendium of the law, as it effects them, and indeed, other vocations too in which applied legal understanding is becoming an accelerating prerequisite. Fuller was a practising lawyer for his entire career until his recent retirement. Members will be notified of the event closer to the date.

Committee member Don Walker gives the vote of thanks to ACT Party deputy leader Heather Roy MP who addressed the National Press Club on the need to fund and maintain the armed forces. The talk was illustrated by her own tour of duty as a territorial forces inductee.

Opposition leader John Key MP found himself mobbed by the media shortly after his address to the National Press Club in which he outlined many of the policies that the National Party would carry into the general election campaign.
